Free your mind.
He kissed me as the sun went down on the Brooklyn Bridge

it’s hard to leave someone. but you know what’s the hardest? leaving the thought of them. when you look at it, you can grasp how easy it could be to get up one day, pack your things, and walk away without looking back. but what are you supposed to do about the thought of someone? the memories once it’s all said and done? the reality is that i cannot just delete you from my mind like i’ve deleted your texts. and believe me, if i could, i would’ve already done it a long time ago.

We have not spoken to one another for a week. When I decided to cut you off forever, did you think that I was joking? Like the last 100 times when I said I would no longer speak to you? Did you think about it as something serious?

I bet your running thoughts were–

“He’ll be back. He always comes back.
He can’t stay away for long. He wouldn’t.
He’ll miss me too much. He can’t.”

But I am.

And I do miss you, I do.

I still talk to you in my head,
and baby, that’s my saddest truth.

Because to me, sometimes you still breathe into my mouth. Because to me, you still kiss my lips. Because to me, you still hold me at night. Because to me, you are still here. I still have a friend. I still have a lover. I still have you.

That’s why I had to seriously leave this time.

Forgive me.
